For my Country Charmer Christmas quilt, I am going with a free motion quilting design.
Before choosing a design, I perused through my collection of Angela Walters free motion quilting books. I love Angela because she gives step by step instructions and troubleshooting for popular free motion designs. Her books are great for beginner free motion quilters.
For the main design, I have chosen to go with a swirl pattern. I chose this design for two reasons: First, it is an easy pattern and will hide small mistakes and second, the swirls remind me a snow which I thought was perfect for a Christmas quilt.
On the boarders, I am going to try my hand at feathers. This will be a first for me so we will see how it goes.
I am using a gray Aurifil cotton thread (the name of this color is called Dove!). I like my quilting thread to blend into the quilt as this allows me to hide my mistakes and does not detract from the piecing.
Because I am quilting this quilt on my domestic machine, I am using Jaws Quilt Clips. These keep my quilt nicely rolled up while I am working on a smaller section.
It has been a busy week so the quilting process is taking me a little longer than usual. I am looking forward to a quiet weekend full of quilting.
Happy Quilting!
